Nightmare Metra Train

After a great day in Chicago at the air show, we caught the 10:40 train home. Luckily the train left on time but not more than 3 minutes later the train was at a dead stop. After about 20 minutes we found out that there were two cargo trains stopped in front of us because of a switch not working. So an hour and a half later we they finally got that fixed and they said we were on our way. So we pulled into the next stop and we never left. It was the stupidest thing in the world. After a while we heard from passengers around us the the crew on the train left. Supposedly they had already worked their 12 hour shift and it was illegal for them to work any longer and the only one left working was a guy in training. So after being their a half hour there was an announcement that there would be a new crew here in 20 minutes. Well, that certainly never happened. And next thing we know the 11:40 train and the 12:40 train were behind us and they all had to get off their trains and come onto ours. Another half hour after that they made us all get off the train they just put everyone on and go back to the other 11:40 train. So we waited till they pulled up a new train. Now that it was 3 in the morning everyone was extremely upset how bad Metra communication skills were and how dumb this how thing was. Well, we finally got on a working train and made the one hour trip home. But 50 yards from our platform the train stops again and they make us wait another 20 minute for an unknown reason. All and all the hour train ride took us over 6 and a half. It was a nightmare.
Now I remember when I took the trains in Spain for two years on my LDS mission and how they were consistently on time and clean. Why can't America build fast and reliable public transportation with a decent customer service?
